From an ancient text:

You were taught with reference to your former way of life to lay aside the old human who is being corrupted in accordance with deceitful desires,to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and to put on the new human who has been created in God’s image—in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth.

Therefore, having laid aside falsehoodeach one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, because we are members of one another.

This week, in the continual chaos that seems to be our world, I was lead to “go for the throat” …  literally the throat charka.  I am greatly inspired by the times we are living in and my continual journey in the search for truth.

After reading much about the current state of “truth” on the internet, I find we are at the beginning of a new time in history.  This new time we are in is called “Post Truth”.  To give this “new time” name legitimacy, one of the sources I found quoted was the Oxford Dictionaries…  Their Word of the for Year 2016 was “beginning of the post-truth era” –

It is an adjective defined as “relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief”.

Objective facts… the truth… is becoming less influential in shaping public opinion.  Something to give some thought to.   What shapes your opinion?  Where do you get your facts?

All this reminds me of the story of Plato’s Cave…

Plato has Socrates describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them, and they even give names to these shadows. The shadows are the prisoners’ reality… it is all they are allowed to see in their imprisonment.  Socrates explains how the philosopher {or the truth seeker} is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall are not reality at all…he can see the truth… he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the manufactured reality that is the shadows seen by the prisoners.

The inmates of this place do not even desire to leave their prison; for they know no better life.  They fear the truth of reality.   They would rather be in the perceived safety of their imprisonment.

My interpretation of this story is, we are the prisoners and we sit and watch the shadows, thinking those images to be reality… {our shadows on the wall is TV and media}… and we gather our truth from the shadows. We feel the safety in the numbers of the people who accepts what is shown to us.  When the truth becomes clear to us to be other than the shadows, we retreat… going back to the shadows rather than facing the unsettling truth.  After all, there may be responsibility attached to the acceptance of the truth.

We are now deep in the Post Truth Era.  How do you fit into these times??  Are you in the cave or out from the shadows??

One of the great teachers told us: put on the new self, which is created to be like the ultimate Truth…  which is true righteousness and holiness.   {Righteousness= morally right or justifiable…  Holiness=in the highest sense of being sacred}. And goes on to tell us,

Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

Put off falsehood and speak truthfully…  Because what effects one of us effects all of us.

This is clearly telling us to get out of the shadows…  Seek truth from sources of truth…  Be careful who you choose to listen to…

This all leads us to The Throat Chakra…  The throat chakra is the energy center located in the back of the throat.  More specifically, it is right at the V on the collarbone at the lower neck. It allows you to communicate your thoughts clearly and courageously.

It is how you give life to your thoughts, feelings, values, opinions, truths, ideas, inspirations and insights and it relates to all forms of self-expression, not just the spoken word.

The throat chakra is associated with a clear blue that reflects the clarity of the sky and the sea. This color is associated with truth, purity, cleanliness and tranquility.

When the chakra is open, your self-expression is clear, precise, concise, and free of fear.  There is a natural flow to life…

When it is out of balance you might find yourself habitually lying, feeling fear and doubt about the intentions of others, or find yourself stammering or at a loss for words.  You will likely have feelings of being misunderstood. You may well have symptoms of other chakras being out of balance. This is caused by the throat chakra blocking the energy flow from the other centers.

Ask yourself how honest you are or how honest is what you receive information from in conveying truthfulness, not only to others, but also to you. It might seem odd, but a habitual liar will often begin to believe his/her own deceptions to some degree. When you present yourself outwardly through speech and demeanor in a false way or take in speech and information that is false… you are infecting the energy intake and outtake flow of your throat chakra.

When we lose our authenticity the throat chakra shuts down.

I believe now is a good time for all of us to work on our throat chakra.  And as we know…  as in the microcosm, so in the macrocosm.  When we raise our own vibration, we in turn affect the energy of the whole… we raise other’s vibration as well… By our own actions, we affect the whole…  Because we are one body.

So, how can we work with our Throat Chakra?  How can we create the “Era of Truth?”  Please see next week’s blog for ways of opening this chakra and accepting your originality and how to use your authentic voice to SPEAK YOUR TRUTH!!
